Billing & Plans

Manage your subscription, upgrade plans, add storage, purchase team seats, and view invoices.

Subscription Plans

BackupEngine offers separate plan tracks for desktop/server and mobile, each with tiered storage and feature levels. You can view and change your current plan from Settings → Billing in the Customer Portal.

  • Desktop Personal: Ideal for individual users protecting one or two machines with file-level backup.
  • Desktop Pro: For power users and small businesses needing more storage, more devices, and priority support.
  • Server: Includes all Pro features plus SQL Server, Hyper-V, BMR, System State, and Exchange backup capabilities.
  • Mobile plans are managed separately through in-app purchases on iOS and Android.
  • All plans include unlimited version history within the retention period, client-side encryption, and deduplication.

Plan pricing and included storage amounts are available on the BackupEngine pricing page. Annual billing saves 20% compared to monthly billing.

Upgrading and Downgrading

You can change your plan at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing cycle.

  • Upgrade: Navigate to Billing → Change Plan, select the new plan, and confirm. Additional features and storage are available immediately.
  • Downgrade: Select a lower-tier plan. You will keep your current features until the end of the billing period.
  • If your stored data exceeds the new plan's storage limit after a downgrade, you will need to reduce usage or purchase add-on storage.
  • Plan changes are logged in the billing history for your records.

⚠ Warning

Downgrading from a Server plan to a Desktop plan will disable server-specific features (SQL Server, Hyper-V, BMR, Exchange). Existing server backups will be retained but no new server backups can be created.

Add-On Storage and Team Seats

If you need more storage or additional team members beyond what your plan includes, you can purchase add-ons without changing your plan.

  • Additional storage: Purchase in 100 GB increments. Storage add-ons are billed monthly alongside your plan.
  • Team seats: Each plan includes a base number of seats. Purchase additional seats for team members.
  • Add-ons can be added or removed from Billing → Add-Ons at any time.
  • Add-on charges are prorated when added mid-billing-cycle.

Invoices and Payment Methods

BackupEngine processes payments through Stripe, providing secure and reliable billing management.

  • View and download PDF invoices from Billing → Invoice History.
  • Payment methods: Credit card and debit card via Stripe. Add or update your card from Billing → Payment Method.
  • Failed payments: If a payment fails, BackupEngine retries automatically over the next 7 days. You will receive email notifications.
  • After 7 days of failed payments, backups are paused (but not deleted). Resolve the payment issue to resume.
  • Cancellation: Cancel your subscription from Billing → Cancel Plan. Your data is retained for 30 days after cancellation.

💡 Tip

Enable annual billing to save 20% and avoid monthly payment processing. You can switch from monthly to annual billing at any time from the Billing page.
